FOUR days to go before the Brancott Estae World of Wearable Art(WoW) Awards to be held at the TSB Bank Arena on August 26.
I already received my ticket courtesy of Ms. Rebecca Egerton of Wellington City Council and Ms. Tanya Beswick , Marketing and Media Co-ordinator of World of WearableArt Ltd.
I’m pretty excited aside from watching the awards night. I’m going to interview Mr. Joseph Bawar, a Filipino designer for GMA Network Inc., the largest and leading media broadcasting company in the Philippines.
Mr. Bawar, who is is from Valenzuela City, has been selected for his Garment design entry “Silver Belle” under the category : Tourism Avant Garde Section.
“I’ve been working on this piece for quite some time. The inspiration for the piece came from variety of sources ranging from medieval armory, superheroes to the artist Christo”, Mr. Bawar said.
He added, “ Softdrink tab were used as paillettes and sewn on a mesh base in order to illustrate the concept of being tough yet fluid”.
“ The tabs that I used were collected by me and my mom sources from friends and people we know. It took me a period of five months to finish the actual garment which includes sewing the sequins and a total of 3,584 tabs one by one by hand”, He said.
He was chosen from the 72 international garment designs entered to participate from countries all over the World. A total of 55 garment designs, representing nine countries have been selected.
Mr. Bawar is scheduled to arrive in New Zealand on August 24.
