For the Love of Art – Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery

Bird Feeding at Rafferty’s Resort

Bird feeding takes place daily through the school holidays. Enjoy an encounter with pelicans on the shores of Lake Macquarie at 2pm, or head to the arboretum to feed native birds at 4pm.

Learn to Sail – Belmont 16ft Sailing Club

Belmont 16’s Sailing Club are offering 6 – 17 year olds a two day sailing course upon their famous skiffs. With no previous experience required, there’s no better way to get started with sailing. All equipment is supplied and attendees receive a certificate upon completion.

Two day course takes place on the 18th and 22nd January with morning and afternoon sessions available.

School of Yak – School Holiday Learn to Kayak Program

A great introduction to kayaking for ages 12 and up with programs for beginners through to experienced youth paddlers. Kids will learn skills and water safety, and enjoy a full kayak journey on the final day. Successful participants will receive an Australian Canoeing Basic Skills Award certificate.

Surf Grooms Summer Surf School at Caves Beach

Get the kids riding waves with this learn to surf program for 5-12 year olds. Surf Grooms teaches beach safety and helps children build confidence in the water. Adults are welcome to join and each child will receive a pack from Quiksilver and Weetbix.

School holiday entertainment at local libraries

Swansea, Morisset and Belmont libraries will be offering a raft of activities to keep the kids amused. Highlights include Wombat Stew Puppet Show (8th Jan, 10am, Swansea), Jedi Training Camp (18th Jan, 10am, Belmont) and Dinosaur Disco Party (23rd Jan, 2pm, Morisset) plus much more.

Hit the hiking trails

Lake Macquarie is home to a plethora of hiking trails that the whole family will love. With options from the beach to the rainforest to the bush there’s something for everyone. Trails vary in length and difficulty.
