Harbourside brings the beach to the city

Hit the beach without leaving the city this summer when Harbourside Shopping Centre transforms Darling Harbour into a summer oasis.

From 4 January until 22 January, Harbourside Amphitheatre and the promenade will be channeling beach vibes with sparkling sand, live music and festoon lighting to offer Sydney a beautiful inner-city escape. Kids activities will keep the young ones entertained and live music every evening from Thursday to Sunday will offer something for kids and adults alike.

Pull up a deck chair and relax under a beach umbrella with friends or bring the kids along and enjoy water themed rides, with buckets and spades for hire. The Darling Harbour Pop-Up Beach, located next to the Ferris Wheel, will be open from 9am – 9pm.

Harbourside Marketing Manager, Nicole Addinall said, “Harbour pop-up beaches are a big thing in Europe and we’re aiming to bring that vibrant and fun atmosphere to Darling Harbour for three weeks in January with the Pop-Up Beach. We want to let people know Darling Harbour is open and there are plenty of activities on offer to keep the whole family entertained.”

Between 11am and 2pm daily, the Harbourside Beach Patrol will set up under the shade cover, offering free sunscreen and misting to keep visitors cool.

The centre is also taking part in this year’s Sydney Festival and, over the same period, will house a beach-inspired sculpture of five large seagulls made out of cardboard boxes in its central void. The sculpture is an extension of The People’s Tower being built by BOXWARS out of cardboard boxes in Palm Grove, next to the IMAX Theatre.
